Wildcats claw Bucks 83-72 – Story of 02-24-77 game (link from the Lantern)

Tex Winter was Northwestern’s coach.

It was Eldon Miller’s 1st season as Buckeye head coach.

Jerry Marifke had 20 points and Tony Allen 18.

Marifke was subbing for Wildcat star Billy McKinney, who was out of the game with an injury.

Standout line from the article: “The Wildcats won the game at the free throw line…”

Kelvin Ransey, in what was an excellent freshman season, had 21 points for Ohio State and Jim Ellinghausen scored 18.

The Buckeyes had lost every home game that season up until that point but defeated Wisconsin in OT inside St. John Arena in the very next game to provide Buckeyes 1st year head coach Eldon Miller.

By goodness, Hell must have frozen over today because Northwestern defeated Ohio State in Columbus.

Congratulations to the Northwestern Wildcats.
